Batman, ‘Grease,’ Star Wars sequel highlight Bama Theatre movies
Golden oldie movies, 22 of them, will show in the Bama Theatre on summer mornings and evenings, with holiday-themed screenings returning for Halloween- and Christmas-themed evenings.
The Big Screen Blockbuster series will show at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June and July:
- “Grease” (1978) June 3;
- “The Parent Trap” (1961) June 10;
- “The Hunger Games” (2012) June 17;
- “Batman” (1989) June 24;
- “Stand By Me” (1986) July 1;
- “Deep Blue Sea” (1999) July 8;
- “Mamma Mia! (2008) July 15;
- “Twister” (1996) July 22;
- and “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) July 29.
The Morning Movies will show at 10 a.m. on Fridays in June and July:
- “Toy Story” (1995) June 6;
- “Encanto” (2021) June 20;
- “The Muppet Movie” (1979) July 11;
- and “Moana” (2016) July 25.
“The 28th Manhattan Short Film Festival” will screen at 7 p.m. Oct. 2.
The Fright Film Series will show at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the fall, with:
- “Monster House” (2006) Sept. 30;
- “The Shining” (1980) Oct. 14;
- “Hocus Pocus” (1993);
- and “Insidious” (2010) Oct. 30.
There’ll be a bonus sing-along version of the 2024 movie musical “Wicked” at 7 p.m. Nov. 11; part two of the “Wicked” film is coming to cinemas Nov. 21.
For winter holidays, there’ll be 7 p.m. screenings of:
- “The Santa Clause” (1994) Dec. 16;
- “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946) Dec. 22;
- “Christmas with the Kranks” (2004) Dec. 23;
- and “The Polar Express” (2004) Dec. 23.
Tickets can be purchased online at bamatix.org or at the Bama’s office during office hours, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Bama Art House also offers five packages for the series, with discounted tickets for each season, or the 2025 full season, all available online. Punch cards are available for $70, offering admission to any 10 movies in any future series.
Doors will open one hour before each showing’s start time, as will the concession stand in the Greensboro Room lobby, selling popcorn and other snacks, sodas, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
