India’s haunted places are a mix of history and mystery, and are therefore ideal for Halloween expeditions. You can find a terrifying tale for your Halloween festival at the spooky deserted ruins of Kuldhara, the fort of Shaniwarwada, or the misty forests of Dow Hill, the cursed streets of Bhangarh, and the echoing steps of Agrasen ki Baoli. Go out this Halloween and explore the authentic haunted places of India if you want to experience real fear and not just talk about it. But remember, it’s usually safer (and more fun) to take a friend along.

Bhangarh Fort is arguably one of the most haunted places in India and offers an experience altogether different from the rest of the world. Constructed in the 17th century, the fort is situated in a valley surrounded by hills and features palaces and temples in ruins, reminiscent of those seen in old photographs. The story goes that a sorcerer cast a spell on Bhangarh, and anyone venturing there after sunset will be doomed to never coming back again. The empty streets and silent ruins, even in bright hours, make the place most eerie yet impressive of all the scariest forts vibes, and the dread does not leave you for a very long time after.
Agrasen ki Baoli, Delhi

Right in the middle of Delhi is Agrasen ki Baoli, an old stepwell with very steep and narrow stairs leading down to a gloomy chamber. The place seems to be void of life, and the sound of a footstep can be heard in this dimly light area, with the echoes getting their own life. Some visitors experienced unexplainable events and sudden drops in temperature, and these phenomena have made Baoli a cool Halloween spot for visitors without the requirement of going out of town.
Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

Kuldhara used to be a lively village, but was deserted in the 19th century; it has remained empty till today. It is said that the inhabitants, before leaving, hurled a curse at the land to escape the evil ruler, and according to the curse, no one is allowed to live there anymore. Walking through the empty, tangled streets with run-down houses, you can almost make out the lives that once existed inside the village, and it is very hard not to sense the ghostly presences of its past.

Shaniwarwada Fort is a historical site located in Pune and houses a dark past filled with betrayal and deaths under mysterious circumstances. Even now, visitors report that they can hear the cries and whispering voices coming from the huge gates and ruins at night when they are alone. The fort’s expansive structures and long dark corridors create an atmosphere that is not only awe-inspiring but also very unsettling, making it perfect for any thrill-seekers to visit.
Dow Hill, West Bengal

For anyone out to go for a spine-chilling forest walk, Dow Hill in West Bengal comes with fog-covered pine forests and lots of horror stories. Lots of people have claimed to see ghosts in the area, especially around the old Victorian-style boarding school, and the foggy and remote setting turns every leaf falling and every sunlit corner into a living creature. In fact, it is a perfect blend of the natural and the supernatural, so it will be just right for those who want a little adventure with their Halloween.
