Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025: Sarla Aviation unveils India’s first electric air taxi Shunya
India’s First Electric Air Taxi Unveil: Sarla Aviation, an aerospace startup, has unveiled its prototype air taxi – Shunya – at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This will be India’s first electric air taxi which is set to launch in Bangalore by 2028, followed by expansions to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and other major cities.
According to the company the Shunya air taxi prototype is the highest payload eVTOL in the market and is capable of carrying up to six passengers and a maximum payload of 680 kg. With a top speed of 250 km/h, the vehicle is optimised for short trips ranging from 20-30 km.
The company claims that this electric air taxi offers a game-changing solution for reducing travel times in congested urban areas.
“By addressing challenges like traffic congestion and pollution, we aim to unlock India’s economic potential while paving the way for a cleaner and more connected future,” said Adrian Schmidt, Co-Founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation.
“Our journey is deeply rooted in the ideals of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, as we work to create homegrown, world-class solutions that place India at the forefront of global aviation innovation,” he added.
Sarla Aviation also announced that it recently secured $10 million in Series A1 funding, led by Accel, with participation from prominent angel investors, including Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal and Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath. This funding will accelerate the development of the technology and help establish a cutting-edge R&D center, it said.
In addition to passenger transport, Sarla Aviation plans to introduce a free air ambulance service aimed at enhancing rapid medical responses in urban environments, the company said in a release.
