Bill Gates Commits $200 Billion to African Healthcare and Education | Ukraine news
Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, announced his intention to donate the majority of his wealth over the next 20 years to improve healthcare and education in Africa. This information was reported by the BBC.
In his speech, the 69-year-old entrepreneur emphasized the importance of unlocking human potential through medical and educational initiatives, which he believes are key to the prosperity of African countries.
During his address in the Ethiopian capital, Gates called on young innovators across the continent to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions to enhance the healthcare system.
He also noted that by 2045, when his foundation plans to conclude its activities, he intends to give away 99% of his wealth, which is projected to reach $200 billion.
“Recently, I committed that over the next 20 years my wealth will be distributed. Most of these funds will be spent helping you solve problems here in Africa.”

Graça Machel, former First Lady of Mozambique, expressed support for this initiative, stating:
“We count on Mr. Gates’s unwavering commitment to continue walking this path of transformation alongside us.”

Against the backdrop of reduced aid to Africa from the U.S. government, particularly in HIV/AIDS treatment programs, the Gates Foundation plans to focus on improving primary healthcare on the continent.
Gates emphasized that mobile technologies have already revolutionized the banking sector in Africa, and now it is time to use artificial intelligence to advance healthcare.
He cited Rwanda as an example, where AI-based ultrasound scans are used to detect high-risk pregnancies.
The Gates Foundation has identified three main priorities: reducing maternal and infant mortality, ensuring the health of the next generation free from deadly infectious diseases, and lifting millions of people out of poverty.
According to Bloomberg data, even after donating 99% of his wealth, Gates will remain a billionaire.
Together with Paul Allen, he founded Microsoft in 1975, which quickly became a leader in software and technology.
Over the past decades, Gates has gradually stepped back from active company involvement, resigning as CEO in 2000 and as chairman in 2014.
He admitted that his decision to give away most of his wealth was influenced by investor Warren Buffett and other well-known philanthropists.
However, critics of the Gates Foundation argue that it uses philanthropy to avoid paying taxes and wields excessive influence over the global healthcare system.
