Boys hockey results for Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 – Post Bulletin

Century/JM 4, Mankato East 2

ROCHESTER — Kyle Lappi made 28 saves, while Boston Collins and Ole Fevold scored crucial third-period goals to lift Rochester Century/John Marshall to a 4-2 Big Nine Conference boys hockey victory against Mankato East on Hockey Fights Cancer Day, Saturday at Graham Arena.

The Panthers took a 2-1 lead into the third period, then senior center Brock Clarey set up Collins for the game-winning goal 1:02 into the third.

East’s Indy Ragan scored close to six minutes later to pull the Cougars within 3-2, but Fevold, a senior forward, iced the victory with his 21st goal of the season, coming with 11 seconds remaining in the game.

The Panthers (10-2-0 Big Nine, 17-6-0 overall) led 1-0 after one period on a Calvin O’Reilly power-play goal. That goal was assisted by senior forward Austin Gibson, one of the many people in the arena who were celebrated as part of Hockey Fights Cancer Day. Gibson was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March of 2024. He spent the summer and early fall undergoing chemotherapy treatments, and was given a clean bill of health in October.

Griffin Asher tied it for East 1:28 into the second, but 10 minutes later, Fevold set up Clarey for a short-handed goal and a 2-1 lead.

Lappi took care of the rest, making 13 of his saves in the second period and nine in the third period.

Brody Kunst held East (7-7-0, 9-15-0) in the game, making 47 saves.

Century/JM closes its season next week with two road games, Thursday at Red Wing (7:15 p.m.) and Saturday at Faribault (7:15 p.m.).

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
