Britains International Development Minister Resigns Over Budget Cut

In Britain, the international developments minister, Anneliese Dodds, has resigned over the decision by Prime Minister Keir Starmer to slash the international aid budget by almost half to pay for an increase in defence spending.

The senior Labour member of parliament, says the decision by the UK to pull back from development aid would bolster Russia.

The Guardian newspaper says the prime minister would find it impossible to honour his commitment to maintain development spending in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine with the diminished budget, which is set to fall by £6 billion by 2027.

Dodds says while it’s right for the UK to increase defence spending, other measures, except slashing the development aid budget, must be taken to raise the funds required.
