Bochurim at Achei Tmimim took part in the Yeshiva’s first Mental Fitness Day, participating in guided exercises focused on setting personal goals, building accountability, and developing skills for personal growth. Full Story

Everyone knows how important physical health is. We have gym memberships, follow diets, work with fitness coaches, count our calories, visit the doctor, and exercise regularly.

But how many of us are working out our minds? Do we have coaches who help us stretch our minds and strengthen our emotional capacity? Are we making sure that we have increased our mental and emotional fitness over the past year?

These are the questions Achei Tmimim posed to its bochurim at its first Mental Fitness Day.

Last Wednesday, the bochurim spent their Iyun time in parks throughout New York City, participating in guided exercises led by Rabbi Levi Tzukernik, Rabbi Dovid Losh, and Rabbi Menachem Forer. The mashpiim coached the bochurim through a process of identifying personal goals for their future, turning those goals into measurable, actionable steps, and developing concrete plans to bring them to fruition.

“These days, there’s a tremendous lack of accountability, especially among young people,” Rabbi Losh explained. “When I sat down to design this program, that stood out as the first step in personal growth. Can you set a goal and stick to it? Do you know what you want your life to become? And do you know what it feels like to work toward that vision?”

At the end of the exercise, the bochurim each set a small goal and then worked together to accomplish it. By encouraging one another and pushing themselves, they experienced a taste of what real progress and success can feel like.

“I really enjoyed it,” one bochur shared. “Getting out of Yeshiva to do something like this was a really unique and special experience. For a lot of us, mapping out our goals and thinking about what we want to accomplish is crucial.”

The Mental Fitness Day is the first step in a broader vision at Achei Tmimim, which is to help bochurim grow personally alongside their Yiddishe and Chassidishe development. As the Yeshiva’s Mental Fitness Program continues to develop, the bochurim can look forward to more opportunities to strengthen themselves and build the skills they need to reach their potential.

“Our core value is to create a structured, healthy Yeshiva,” said Rabbi Yehuda Fenton, Director of Achei Tmimim. “As our Yeshiva continues to grow, we hope to offer more structured programming that allows our bochurim to become their healthiest, most Chassidishe selves.”
