Cañon City Chamber Orchestra presents “Western Landscapes” – A celebration of iconic western music – Canon City Daily Record
The Cañon City Chamber Orchestra invites the community to experience Western Landscapes, an extraordinary concert celebrating the spirit and sound of the American West. This free event will occur at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Steeple Events Center, 701 Macon Ave.
Western Landscapes will feature music from legendary Western films and television shows, bringing to life the grandeur, adventure, and romance of the frontier. Audiences will enjoy iconic themes from:
How the West Was Won
Bonanza
Maverick
The Big Country
Rawhide
The Magnificent Seven
The Wild, Wild West
Paint Your Wagon
A Fist Full of Dollars
World Premiere of Un-Settled
A highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of Un-Settled, a newly composed piece by Gerald Willis, the orchestra’s conductor and music director. Inspired by the landscapes and history of the American West, Un-Settled explores themes of transformation, resilience, and the untamed beauty of the frontier.
“I wanted to capture the duality of the West—both its beauty and its challenges,” said Willis. “It’s a story of people finding their place in an untamed land, and I’m excited to share this piece with the community.”
Win a Chance to Conduct the Orchestra!
In a special interactive moment, one lucky audience member will have the chance to conduct the orchestra as they perform the patriotic classic Stars and Stripes Forever.
