CAPA to screen ‘Titanic’ this week in Summer Movie Series
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) has announced the cancellation of the scheduled screenings of the silent film “Safety Last!” originally set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, August 14-15. The screenings have been replaced with the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic.”
The change comes as a result of health concerns that have rendered CAPA organist Clark Wilson unavailable for the remainder of the Summer Movie Series. In his absence, CAPA associate organist David Fleisher, along with organists Richie Gregory and Jay Spencer, will provide pre-show music on the “Mighty Morton” theatre organ, presented by Ice Miller, for the rest of the season.
Tickets purchased for “Safety Last!” will be refunded. Tickets for the “Titanic” screenings are priced at $6, with a discounted rate of $5 for seniors. They can be purchased at the CAPA Ticket Center at the Ohio Theatre, located at 39 E. State St., online at www.capa.com, or by phone at (614) 469-0939.
“Titanic,” one of the highest-grossing films in history and tied for the most Academy Awards, tells the story of star-crossed lovers Jack and Rose, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic. The film features a meticulously reconstructed set of the ship, providing a backdrop for a personal and epic tragedy that changed the face of a nation forever. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the film’s grandeur on the big screen once more.
