Celebration of great barbershop music on De Smet stage September 7

By Plainsman Staff

DE SMET –– A rare musical treat is coming to the De Smet Event Center on Sunday, September 7, at 3 p.m. when the close harmonies of barbershop music will fill the stage. The fifth and final performance of the 2025 De Smet Area Concert Series will feature The All Nighters Barbershop Quartet and the larger Tri-Valley Barbershop Chorus.

This two-hour program promises a delightful “blast from the past,” packed with personality and the unique sounds of this all-American art form.

Barbershop music is celebrated for its rich four-part harmonies and ringing chords that seem to linger long after the singers stop.

The Tri-Valley Barbershop Chorus, an active chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society for nearly 75 years, has earned rave reviews across southeast South Dakota and surrounding states. Adding to the fun, The All Nighters Quartet—a dynamic foursome within the chorus—has been entertaining audiences of all ages for more than a decade. Whether performing tender ballads or lively, toe-tapping tunes, their performances are known to bring joy, smiles, and even goosebumps.

The Tri-Valley Barbershop Chorus has several three-generation families in membership. They’re a group of men who love singing a cappella harmonies in the barbershop style, which is being passed on through the generations.

This rousing tribute to barbershop harmony will bring the curtain down on the 2025 De Smet Concert Series, concluding a season of five outstanding performances that have drawn concert-goers from across South Dakota. Now in its 10th year, the De Smet Concert Series continues its tradition of hosting nationally and internationally acclaimed entertainers in Sunday afternoon performances held from April through September.

Tickets are limited. Individual tickets are $25 each. For more information, contact Nancy Montross at 605-854-3502 or the De Smet Event Center at 605-854-6060.
