Central Sports stay alive with big win | Local Sports

Defending champions Central Sports delivered a dominant performance under the lights at the Queen’s Park Oval Friday night, defeating Preysal Sports by 41 runs in a crucial Group A match to keep their title hopes alive in the CPL/TKR T20 Festival.

After being sent in to bat at the Queen’s Park Oval, Central Sports posted an imposing 208 for eight in their 20 overs, thanks to a blistering century from Man-of-the-Match Jabari Mills, who smashed 102 off 57 balls, including ten fours and six sixes.

Preysal replied with 167 for five, with Sachin Seecharan scoring an even 50 off 36 balls. Mills also made an impact with the ball, claiming two wickets for 35 runs.

However, it was his performance with the bat that set the foundation for his team’s first win of the campaign.

Mills anchored the Central Sports innings after they lost two wickets in the first two overs with just five runs on the board.

He put on a 68-run stand with Leonardo Julien (39 off 22) during the Powerplay and then added 76 with Roshon Primus (32 off 22) in the middle overs to propel Central Sports to a commanding total.

Chasing 209, Preysal showed glimpses of promise, with Aaron Bankay (40 off 28 balls) and Sachin Seecharan (50 off 36 balls) leading the charge.

However, Mills struck a crucial blow in the middle of the chase to derail Preysal’s momentum.

Preysal reached 95 for one in the 11th over when Mills trapped Bankay lbw. Two overs later, he dismissed Adrian Cooper for seven.

Seecharan held the innings together, but once he departed in the 17th over, Central Sports seized full control, leaving Preysal needing 62 runs from the final 20 balls.

Central Sports will face Queen’s Park Cricket Club in their final Group A match today and will need a convincing victory to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stage.

Earlier Friday, the Parkites secured a seven-wicket win over Bess Motors Marchin Patriots in a high-scoring fixture.

The Patriots posted 206 for seven after being sent in to bat, with Evin Lewis leading the charge with 89 off 45 balls.

The Parkites responded with 207 for three in 18.1 overs, as Kyle Ramdoo (57) and Andre Fletcher (69) guided them to their target.

In another Group A fixture today, Yorkshire will take on the Patriots at 2:30 p.m, with the winners advancing to the knockout round alongside either QPCC or Central Sports.
