Chinese FM Wang Yi Meets PM Narendra Modi In Delhi Ahead Of SCO Summit News24 –

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, ahead of the latter’s first visit to China in seven years. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to China from August 31 to September 1 for the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Wang has already held meetings with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval. At the meeting, he is expected to brief the Prime Minister about the agenda for the SCO Summit and the recent progress in Sino-India ties. Wang and Jaishankar are also expected to finalize the agenda for the Modi–Xi bilateral.

An announcement regarding the resumption of direct flights between the two countries is also anticipated.

Xi Jinping had earlier met with S. Jaishankar as well as NSA Ajit Doval. After the meetings, he said that the bilateral relationship is facing an important opportunity for improvement and growth, adding that a healthy and stable India–China relationship serves the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries.

Wang Yi echoed this sentiment during his Special Representatives’ meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

“The Chinese side attaches great importance to the Prime Minister’s visit to China to attend the SCO Summit at our invitation. We believe that the Indian side will also make its contribution to a successful summit in Tianjin,” Wang Yi said.

He further added, “I am ready to work with you to build more consensus, identify the direction and specific goals of the boundary consultations going forward, and create all conditions for the improvement and further growth of our bilateral relations.”

Wang highlighted that both sides should follow the strategic guidance of their leaders, increase mutual trust through strategic communication, and expand common interests through exchanges and cooperation.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also appreciated developments in bilateral ties since the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping in Kazan last year, noting that it “pointed the direction for the development of our bilateral relations and provided impetus for the proper settlement of the boundary question.”
