Cisco invests in dedicated India Webex infrastructure, data centre

US-based networking technology provider Cisco said on Tuesday that it had invested in a dedicated India Webex infrastructure and necessary regulatory licenses to accelerate the adoption of Webex across the country.

Webex is a cloud-based collaboration solution that includes video meetings, calling, messaging, events and other customer experience solutions like contact centre and purpose-built collaboration devices

The India Webex infrastructure includes a dedicated data centre and is backed by Cisco Secure products and solutions. This is to ensure data privacy and security.

It will allow Cisco to offer India-specific pricing for customers, helping to lower costs by over 50%, it said.

The data centre will offer a host of services to customers and allow Cisco to sustain continued growth, lower operating costs and increase technical efficiencies.

“Our goal is to create a more inclusive work experience for the three-fold growth expected in the number of digital workers in India by 2030,” said Dave West, president, Cisco APJC. “If we do this right, we can level the playing field and create new opportunities, regardless of geographic borders, socioeconomic background, or language…”

The new infrastructure comes in response to the massive and permanent shift towards hybrid work, the company said.

“This is a significant milestone in our endeavour to power hybrid work at scale and speed. As more companies go hybrid, the demand for secure and adaptable hybrid work solutions will increase,” said Daisy Chittilapilly, president, Cisco India & SAARC. “With this investment, we are looking to capture a growing market that is expected to reach over $250 million in India by 2025.”

According to the Cisco Hybrid Work Study 2022, nearly three in four Indian employees favour a hybrid working environment in future. Cisco has seen a subsequent rise in preference for hybrid work across sectors, with Webex in India consistently recording the second-highest usage after the United States since March 2020.
