Clap and tap artists continue to produce music despite challenges – SABC News

South Africa’s unique sounds of clap and tap are increasingly gaining popularity. This as the Amapiano genre takes the world by storm.

However, funding and support for the unique clap and tap genre, which is rooted in African indigenous hymns, remains a challenge.

Many of the groups that are producing music of the genre are based in rural areas.

David Sabela, a member of the Mandlethu Gospel Choir says, “We are one of the choirs from where we come from, KwaNdebele. So that side, funding is very difficult, yet every weekend, Sundays we hire buses, travel in taxis. Where we perform hawkers benefit. So, we play a huge role in the economy of our country.”
