College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Mack Brown, shares life lessons and football stories at Independence Bowl Kickoff Dinner
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – “You get up everyday to ask, ‘How can I help somebody else, because it’s not about you. It’s about giving as we get a little bit older.
The ageless wonder, Mack Brown, who’s served college football for over four decades, brought laughter and some much needed life lessons for all, at the 15th annual Independence Bowl Kickoff Dinner.
“When they’re down, pick them up. When they’re entitled, put your thumb on them. When they’re down, pick them up,” says Brown to a sold out crowd inside the Shreveport Convention Center.
“Everything that I’ve done, I hope that it’s helped some of the players, because the players are the most important thing in my life, other than my family.”
Members of his extended family, the 1987 Tulane Independence Bowl football team surprised the College Football Hall of Famer on stage.
“You remember their homes, you remember their parents, you remember when they pouted, you remember when they were happy, you remember when they got in trouble, you remember when they didn’t practice hard, you remember when they played great,” says Brown.
Mack Brown, a National Champion, among many accolades, won the biggest prize of all – successfully motivating young men for a common goal.
“I always felt like, ‘I want us to be good. I want people to think that we’re good. I want these guys to think that we’re good, walk around with a swagger and not be stupid.’”
