Connex & MusicTeam develop new project to shore up song credits | Digital

MusicTeam and audio and metadata management platform Connex have teamed up on a project aimed at simplifying the process of releasing music for artists.

A&R management service Connex recently partnered with Universal Music Group and has now joined forces with MusicTeam to build Music Project Delivery, which enables musicians to capture metadata during the creative process.

MusicTeam founder and president Chloe Dagenais suggests that the platform is aimed at answering a perennial industry question.

We have created this bridge that connects the creative process, and who did what, directly to the labels

“The music industry has always struggled with one question: who did what?” said Dagenais. “We’ve built MusicTeam with self-releasing, self-managed artists and producers in mind, but we also know that many independent music makers have hybrid lives, with some projects needing to go to a label. With Music Project Delivery, we help music makers capture the credits at the point of creation and with Connex’s support, we have created this bridge that connects the creative process, and who did what, directly to the labels.”

MD of Connex, David Campbell, added: “Major labels have trusted us to help them turn what has been a real pain point – delivery of complete and accurate metadata – into a simple process. We’re excited to make MusicTeam one of our first partners in music project delivery, to allow end-to-end support of the creative process, right down to the moment of label submission.”

Using specialised algorithms, MusicTeam software can distinguish between different versions of the same track and determine if the updated version is “merely a matter of minor EQ or mixing changes, or the result of a major overhaul”.

A press release added that, with all files stored in the same place, MusicTeam helps ensure “the right people get the credit” and transfers metadata and audio files “directly to the label with the single click of a button”.
