Coolie director Lokesh REVEALS secret behind Rajinikanth’s badge number 1421 in the movie, what is it about?
Rajinikanth’s Coolie badge in one of the posters created a buzz among fans as they were eager to know the meaning behind it. Now, the director of the film Lokesh revealed the secret behind the number. Read on to know what it is about.
Rajinikanth is shown clutching a badge with the number 1421 on one of the Coolie posters. The number’s meaning has been conjectured by the actor’s admirers and moviegoers in general. However, director Lokesh Kanagaraj said that the film is an homage to his father, a bus conductor, during the Coolie trailer launch ceremony on August 2. According to Lokesh, Rajinikanth once questioned him about the significance of the number. “When I told him that it is my father’s badge number and that he was a bus conductor, Rajinikanth sir asked me, ‘Why didn’t you tell me that your father was a conductor?'” Lokesh revealed.
Now directing his sixth film, Lokesh is working with none other than Thalaiva itself. Coolie will be released in theaters on August 14, 2025, and it is anticipated to be a huge thing for Rajinikanth and Lokesh.
All about director Lokesh
Born in Kinathukadavu, Coimbatore, Lokesh was raised in a middle-class family. Lokesh’s early years were not at all like the splendor and glamour of movies because his father was a bus conductor. He worked as a banker after obtaining an MBA degree and a degree in fashion technology from PSG College of Arts and Science.
He was working at a bank when he got the call to produce movies. For him, the pivotal moment came during the corporate short film competition. His contribution received positive feedback from the judges, which piqued his interest.
Lokesh’s shorts Kalam & Acham Thavir gain fame
Lokesh opted to go his own route because he lacked formal training and experience working with another director. His short films Acham Thavir and Kalam garnered a lot of attention, and Kalam was featured in Karthik Subbaraj’s collection Aviyal, which received rave reviews and helped him break into the film industry.
Lokesh’s career
In 2017, Lokesh’s debut film, Maanagaram, was released. It was renowned for its distinct visual aesthetic and non-linear plot. 2019 saw the release of Kaithi, which he directed, on the same day as Vijay’s Bigil. The now-famous Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) began with Kaithi, which was a tremendous hit despite the conflict.
His career took off from there. He collaborated with Vijay on the popular film Master (2021), which featured Vijay Sethupathi and was a box office triumph. Kamal Haasan starred in Lokesh’s 2022 film Vikram. It was the second movie in the LCU and ended up being one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies ever made. Every production demonstrated his ability to collaborate with some of the biggest film actors while still telling his own tales.
