Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Collection: Giving steep competition to one another, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Kiara Advani’s War 2, they have won big at the Independence Day weekend. Both crossed the Rs 50 crore mark on the opening day on August 14, but who won the blockbuster title?

Coolie Box Office Collection

Rajinikanth’s Coolie broke records with a Rs 65 crore opening day at the big screens. Despite a consistent dip from Day 2 to Day 4, the box office collection has totalled to Rs 194.25 crores so far. Collecting nearly Rs 55 crore on Day 2 and roughly Rs 40 crore on its first Saturday, the first Sunday collection slumped to Rs 35 crore, as Rajinikanth’s Coolie inched closer to the Rs 200 crore mark after day 4 box office collections.

Occupancy rates remained high, with maximum audiences reaching the theatres in evening shows for Coolie, 76.73%. Rajini fans from Chennai made Coolie in Tamil a huge success, while it received a weak response from Trivandrum over its I-day weekend run.

War 2 Box Office Collection

The Hrithik Roshan-Kiara Advani duo made headlines with their entertaining screen presence and larger-than-life production. Having a strong first day, War 2 kickstarted the Independence Day 2025 weekend with a Rs 52 crore box office collection. Raising slightly on Day 2 to cross Rs 57 crore, it struggled to touch the same on its first weekend. Inching just above Rs 30 crore, War 2 grossed Rs 173.60 crore at the theatres so far.

With occupancy rates being more than half of Rajini’s Coolie, the overall occupancy for War 2 was just above 33%. The big-budget film made a significant impact in Chennai but did not fare well in Mumbai and Delhi NCR. As compared to Coolie, the Rajinikanth movie had nearly double occupancy rates in Mumbai and numbers towards the higher spectrum in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune.

Coolie vs War 2: I-day weekend verdict

Evident from the numbers, the verdict is in! Rajinikanth’s Coolie is ahead by a Rs 20 crore margin as the Ayan Mukerji directorial slumps behind. Despite a star cast with Jr. NTR and Kiara Advani, it has not attracted large audiences so far. War, the blockbuster prequel, crossed Rs 300 crore during its entire theatrical run, becoming Hrithik Roshan’s highest-grossing movie so far. For NTR Jr., War 2 comes second and ranks in the top five for Kiara Advani.

Higher occupancy rates and big box office collections, the reviews for both War 2 and Coolie remained a mixed bag on social media. Despite a gazillion Rajini fans, the viewers criticised the direction and praised War 2 for its music. Just four days in, and the films are way beyond the first Rs 100 crore; critics await what waves they will create at the big screen from hereon.
