Creator buys 250 movie tickets, fills theater with cosplayers
SAN ANTONIO – A local content creator is going viral yet again on social media, this time for an event involving 250 cosplayers at a local theater.
At 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, Zander Small, an online content creator with over 773,000 Instagram followers and 763,000 followers on TikTok, purchased 250 tickets for a showing of Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing at City Base Cinemas.
Small then gave out the tickets to attendees dressed as the titular character of the film Hatsune Miku, a beloved music and internet icon, and mascot for the vocal synthesizer application Vocaloid.
“I started doing these events, or side quests as I call them, because I wanted to bring people together around the things we love — anime, cosplay, and gaming — and make the internet feel a little more real and welcoming,” said Zander Small.
This event is just one of several that have been hosted by the creator, who has previously organized a similar event for the Minecraft movie with attendees dressed as their favorite Minecraft characters, as well as a “Miku-look-alike” contest in New York City, both of which have gone viral, with major turnouts.
“Whether it’s the Miku Lookalike Contest or a local watch party for the Minecraft movie, it’s all about building community and giving fans a chance to connect offline,” said Small.
Zander Small began his rise to internet stardom in March of 2024, when he began posting videos dressed as popular anime character ‘Gojo’ from popular Manga and Anime series Jujutsu Kaisen.
“I’ve got more in the works — you can definitely expect more local events soon,” said Small. “This is just the beginning.”
