Crunchyroll Pushes Play on Isekai Smash-Hit Overlord Movie
Ranked as one of the best isekai anime properties out there, Overlord is still going strong and even received a movie less than a year ago. Now, this anime film will finally be available to watch on the world’s biggest anime streaming platform.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is the latest part of the anime’s canon, taking place and being released after the anime series’ fourth season. Adapting the 12th and 13th volumes of the light novel series, it and the rest of the story can now be watched on Crunchyroll. The same goes for another isekai anime that’s perfect for those who can’t get enough of Overlord.

April 24, 2025, sees Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom finally added to the Crunchyroll lineup, with the anime movie having previously been released in theaters nearly a year ago in September 2024. The movie was also released two years after the latest season of the Overlord anime series, continuing the story by adapting the “Roble Holy Kingdom” storyline from the original light novels. Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is directed by Naoyuki Ito, who also handled the anime as a whole. Not only can the new movie be streamed on Crunchyroll in its original Japanese form, but the English dub will also be available on the same platform. Of course, the anime cast for each dub is carried over from the anime, with Ainz Ooal Gown voiced by Satoshi Hino in Japanese and Chris Guerrero in the English version.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be added to Crunchyroll at 5 p.m. PT today, with the rest of the anime so far already available. Thus, newcomers can enjoy the anime’s entire story (or at least what’s been produced so far) while those who’ve already seen Season 4 can jump right into the movie. Also available on the streaming service is the parody crossover Isekai Quartet, which unites Overlord with several other isekai light novel/manga/anime franchises. The trend of adapting manga and light novel story arcs as anime movies instead of full anime seasons has become increasingly common, with the same method also being used for the climax of the popular Demon Slayer anime.
