Cuban Foreign Minister holds meeting with his South African counterpart Photo: Cubaminrex
In the first stop of a visit to African countries, the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, exchanged yesterday with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Ronald Lamola.
In this regard, the Cuban Foreign Minister described the talks as productive, and conveyed the high appreciation that the Island attaches to the ties between the two countries, as well as the interest in expanding economic-commercial and cooperation relations, which have great potential.
Lamola said that they agreed to develop mechanisms to share capacities and best practices in areas such as agriculture, biotechnology, defense, education, health, infrastructure development and engineering.
They agreed to work to transform the deep political and historical bilateral relations into stronger trade and economic relations.
The dialogue, according to the South African Foreign Ministry, follows recent fruitful discussions in the framework of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations.
South Africa and Cuba, it recalls, are united by cultural and historical ties, shared struggles, international solidarity and a joint commitment to advance the development agenda of the Global South.
Also, the Ministry adds, Cuba’s admission as a Brics+ partner country in January 2025 is a significant step forward. Brics cooperation, it continues, provides opportunities for solidarity and collaboration among the countries of the Global South.
According to the Minrex, Rodríguez Parrilla will also visit Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal.
