Cumberlandia music festival set to return this summer
Cumberlandia will take place from July 25 to 27 at the Rivendell festival site near Workington.
The festival will feature performances from international artists, as well as those from the area.
This year, the event will include headline performances from Sam Lee, a Mercury prize-nominated singer and folk song interpreter, Rory McLeod, An Dannsa Dub, Re:Vulva, and Granny’s Attic.
The festival will also showcase the community of folk and acoustic music that has developed in west Cumbria.
Following last year’s festival, the organisers are keen to establish Cumberlandia as an annual event and make it a ‘hidden gem’ on the festival circuit.
Dave Camlin, committee chair and Cumbrian singer-songwriter, said: “We were delighted with the feedback from last year’s event, and this year is going to be even better.
“We’re keeping the festival small with no more than 500 people on site, so we’ll retain the sense of intimacy and community, celebrating the vast wealth of creativity in our little part of the world and welcoming some fantastic performers from further afield to inspire us.”
There will be music sessions, open mics, and music, dance, and craft workshops throughout the weekend.
This year, there will also be a new café space, a campfire music-making area, and open mic/busking areas.
Mr Camlin added: “Most importantly, we see Cumberlandia as a place of refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, where people can be part of an inspiring temporary community, collectively imagining a better way of being in the world, through music and music making.
“We’re planning the whole weekend as a journey, drawing people into an amazing musical experience and sending everyone home nourished with creative possibilities.”
Adult tickets for the weekend start at £85, with camping from £20 (vans pay a supplement).
Tickets for children under 12 are £20, but the organisers are reminding potential concert-goers that all children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
