Danny Care reckons his ‘favourite moment’ should be made into a film : Planet Rugby

Danny Care has claimed that a movie should be made about his favourite memory from his stellar career. The retiring 38-year-old has also revealed that he knew after just 10 seconds of his first meeting with Dean Richards that he wanted to play for Harlequins.

The former England scrum-half is set to make his 395th and final appearance for the London club this Sunday in their Gallagher Premiership match at home to Exeter.

Care has been named as a sub on Danny Wilson’s bench – but with a twist as he will be wearing a number nine jersey while starter Will Porter will don the number 21 shirt.

Harlequins’ match programme for what has become the Care farewell match after his 19-year stay at the club is dominated by coverage of their veteran scrum-half.

There is an incredible cover page collage of Care pictured throughout the years while there is also a revealing interview inside in which two topics stand out – his favourite moment at the club, and his life-changing first meeting with former boss Richards.

“Lifting a trophy is a bit like a drug”

“The Premiership final in 2021 means so much to me,” suggested Care. “We won the league in 2012 and it was incredible. I was in a different stage in my life and was a young lad in and around some brilliant, more experienced players.

“We lived the dream together and went and won the league, but then didn’t win it again for nine years. I think lifting a trophy is a bit like a drug. Once you lift one, you want it again and again.

“In 2021, we got back to the big dance at Allianz Stadium, and I genuinely think they should do a film about it. You can’t script what happened that season. I’d put it up there as the favourite memory from my whole career. My wife Jodie, my kids, parents and family were all there, and it meant more because I was playing for them.”

Care began the interview by recalling the club’s approach to him as a teenager during his breakthrough season at Leeds. “I moved to Harlequins when I was 19. I met Dean Richards, and I will never forget it.

“I knew after 10 seconds that I wanted to play for him and for Harlequins. He told me that they thought I would be perfect for the club. I fell in love with Quins on day one and ended up here for 19 years. I’ve had some incredible memories over the years.”
