Deepinder Goyal launches LAT propulsion research centre in Bengaluru to build India’s first indigenous gas turbine engines
India is taking a bold leap toward aerospace self-reliance, with Eternal founder Deepinder Goyal announcing the launch of a dedicated propulsion research centre in Bengaluru under his new venture LAT. The initiative aims to build gas turbine engines from scratch—something India has attempted before but never fully achieved.
In a LinkedIn post made on Wednesday, Goyal said the research centre will be focused solely on creating lightweight, flight-ready, and efficient turbine engines designed and manufactured entirely in India. The move marks a new chapter in indigenous aerospace engineering, with ambitions to power STOL (short takeoff and landing) aircraft, UAVs, and other aviation systems in the future.
“What’s different this time?” Goyal asked in his post. “We’re giving engineers the freedom to think, build, break, and repeat.”
The Bengaluru-based facility will house labs for combustion, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and materials—creating an environment where engineers can rapidly prototype and iterate on new designs. Importantly, the project will be led entirely by engineers without bureaucratic overhead. “No waiting around for approvals from business people. No chasing slides or meetings,” Goyal noted.
Goyal, who has previously built successful ventures like Zomato, Blinkit, and Hyperpure, emphasized the hands-on, problem-solving nature of the project. Engineers will be expected to run bench tests, work directly with suppliers, and build hardware from the ground up.
“If it works, it changes everything,” he added. “A full engine stack, built locally.”
The company is currently inviting experienced engineers with backgrounds in turbine, rotor, or control system development to apply by writing to [email protected]. The project envisions a future where India can independently design and produce aerospace propulsion systems, potentially rewriting the global narrative around indigenous tech capabilities.
The move also comes at a time when India’s emphasis on defense indigenization and aerospace innovation is at an all-time high, with the government and private sector collaborating to reduce dependence on imports. LAT’s success could open doors to a new era of domestic aviation manufacturing, export potential, and job creation in high-tech engineering.
While Goyal acknowledged the path ahead won’t be easy, he stated that if successful, “it could one day rewrite history.”
