Defence Force, Paragon clash in hockey action | Local Sports

OPENING DAY champions Paragon and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) will be in action as the Outdoor Championship season 2025 flicks off in earnest at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua today.

Two weeks ago, both teams earned their victories via the penalty shootout route, as the TTHB finally embarked on the 2025 season after years of delays and setbacks,

The long-awaited restart took place following urgings from the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) to the local governing body to make use of the turf —the installation of the new turf at Tacarigua initially scheduled for early 2017—faced numerous obstacles, including bureaucratic delays, foreign exchange shortages, the Covid-19 pandemic, and technical installation issues—that was still under warranty.

While the turf has yet to be officially certified by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the Men’s opening day champs TTDF will face off against Paragon in their Men’s Open Division match from 7 p.m. today, the last of four matches at the venue.

Paragon are set to embark on their campaign-opener tomorrow when they tackle Ventures from 5 p.m.

The tournament marks the first outdoor season opening at the venue since its AstroTurf was relaid in mid-2024.
