New Delhi: A parliamentary committee has asked the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry to start a direct Rapid Regional Transport System (RRTS) corridor connecting Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) with Noida International Airport at Jewar. This would link the two main airports in the National Capital Region (NCR) directly, said a media report.
Airports Should Be Included in RRTS Network
The committee, led by MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, pointed out that both airports are currently not connected to the RRTS network. They asked the Ministry to work with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to fix this. Earlier, IGIA was part of the Delhi-SNB corridor plan, but that route is now being revised, a Times Property report said.
High-Speed Link Needed for Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida
The panel highlighted the growing importance of Jewar airport for people living and working in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad. Since the area has many homes, offices, hospitals, and schools, they want a fast transit option that can handle a lot of commuters. Without this, they warned, many people won’t benefit from the rapid transit corridors being built.
Noise Protection and Safety Measures
The committee also raised concerns about noise and vibrations from the trains. They asked NCRTC to study how the trains might affect buildings along the Delhi-Meerut route. They recommended putting up noise barriers near places like hospitals, schools, offices, and homes to reduce disturbance caused by the Namo Bharat trains.
On safety, the committee noted that staff are trained to handle emergencies such as heart attacks or strokes. They also confirmed that nearby hospitals within 10 kilometres of the corridor are ready to assist if needed. In short, the committee wants a fast and direct RRTS connection between the two main airports, with proper noise control and emergency safety plans to make travel easier and safer for everyone.
