Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The long-awaited wait of people who were waiting for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been fulfilled as the government has opened a 3.5 km section of the highway to the public. When fully operational, the 212 km long expressway will reduce the total travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours. Notably, this highway is part of a major project that aims at cutting down travel time between the two cities.

As per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the six-lane Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access-Controlled Expressway has been built at a total cost of Rs 12,000 crore.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Divided Into Four Sections

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is being constructed in four sections that are: Delhi near Akshardham, passing through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, and Mandola in Khekra (EPE Interchange). The expressway then further extends through Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur before reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Toll Charges

The first 18 km stretch, which is from Delhi’s Akshardham Temple to Dehradun’s Loni will be toll-free. It means that travelers won’t have to pay any toll charges for this section.

3.5 KM Section Now Open

Notably, the 3.5 km section of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, from Dat Kali to Asharodi, is now opened for public. Earlier, only three lanes were open, but now all the six lanes have been made accessible to the public.

Designed to enhance road safety and reduce travel time, the first phase of the expressway will open a total of 31.6 km, stretching from Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) Interchange in Baghpat. This phase includes seven underpasses, two railway overbridges (ROBs), and a total of 54 junctions—17 major and 37 minor.
