Delhi weather: Rain brings relief from heatwave; Check IMD prediction for next week
Delhi received much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave on Sunday as rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms swept through the city, lowering temperatures and improving air quality.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a severe thunderstorm and strong wind alert for the national capital, cautioning residents against venturing outdoors. The IMD said, “moderate to intense spell of rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, and squally winds reaching speeds of 80-100 kmph” affected Delhi during the early hours.
Visuals from areas such as Krishi Bhavan, Rafi Marg, and Udyog Bhawan showed heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The sudden change in weather offered relief to residents after days of extreme heat.

Delhi weather: IMD forecast for the coming week
For the rest of the week, Delhi is likely to experience some respite from the heatwave as no heatwave conditions have been forecast. Temperatures are expected to range between 35°C and 41°C during the day, while night temperatures will stay between 25°C and 30°C. Skies will remain partly cloudy to generally cloudy throughout the week. Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely on most days. Gusty winds ranging from 30 kmph to 50 kmph may accompany these thunderstorms, with isolated instances of stronger winds. While the maximum temperatures will remain high, the cloud cover and intermittent rain are expected to provide some relief from extreme heat.
