Delhi’s air quality has been deteriorating over the past few days, slipping into the ‘very poor’ and even ‘severe’ categories. The worsening pollution levels have raised serious health concerns for residents across Delhi and the NCR, with experts warning that if the situation isn’t brought under control soon, it could lead to a surge in respiratory and other health-related issues.
Is cloud seeding the solution?
With Delhi’s air quality worsening despite the implementation of GRAP- II measures, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that “cloud seeding has become a necessity for the national capital. Calling it a ‘pioneering step’ to tackle the city’s persistent environmental crisis, she expressed hope that this initiative could help ease the severe pollution levels.”

“Cloud seeding is essential for Delhi to see whether it can help us control this very serious environmental issue,” she said on Friday, as reported by ANI. The Chief Minister also added that the government has the blessings and support of Delhi’s people, expressing confidence that the experiment will succeed and pave the way for long-term solutions to the city’s pollution problem.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), while some cities in Delhi-NCR are moving towards the ‘severe’ air quality category, others continue to remain in the ‘very poor’ range. Here’s a look at today’s AQI levels across key cities in the region.
Anand Vihar: 387 (very poor)
Ashok Vihar: 330 (very poor)
Burari Crossing: 316 (very poor)
CRRI Mathura Road: 307 (very poor)
Chandni Chowk: 352 (very poor)
Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range: 260 (poor)
Dwarka-Sector 8: 296 (poor)
ITO: 299 ( leading towards very poor)
Jahangirpuri: 319 (very poor)
Patparganj: 312 (very poor)
RK Puram: 301 (very poor)
Vivek Vihar: 323 (very poor)
Some areas of Delhi are already slipping into the ‘very poor’ air quality category, while regions like Anand Vihar and Chandni Chowk may soon enter the ‘severe’ zone if conditions remains the same. Meanwhile, parts of the NCR, including Noida, are also recording ‘very poor’ air quality category.

Compared to Delhi and Noida, Ghaziabad is currently recording relatively better air quality levels. However, the AQI still falls in the ‘poor’ category, and residents are advised to take basic precautions to protect their health.
As pollution levels continue to rise across Delhi-NCR, CPCB’s guidelines suggests to stay cautious, avoid outdoor activities, wear masks, and use air purifiers. While cloud seeding may offer temporary relief, lasting change will only come through sustained efforts to reduce emissions and protect the environment.
