Demon Slayer Stars Opens Up About Record-Breaking Movie’s Unexpected Cast Choices
On Sept. 12, 2025, the highly-anticipated anime film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie — Infinity Castle, begins its public theatrical run in North America. With the movie now breaking major box office records, English voice stars Zach Aguilar (Tanjiro Kamado) and Johnny Yong Bosch (Giyu Tomioka) recently expressed their mutual excitement over one of the cast’s most surprising new additions.
A self-professed fan of the Demon Slayer franchise, Hollywood star Channing Tatum (Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, The Hateful Eight) accepted the role of Keizo for part one of the planned Infinity Castle film trilogy. In a recent interview with CBR, both Aguilar and Bosch acknowledged the significance of the actor’s involvement while also treating the situation with a fair degree of levity and humor. “You never expected Channing Tatum would be co-starring with you in the final film?” Aguilar was asked. “You mean my close personal friend, Channing Tatum? Of course, of course,” he joked. “I hear Brad Pitt is an extra in it too!” Bosch chimed in.

For animated films produced in both Japan and the U.S., it has become increasingly common for Hollywood stars to take on voice roles alongside seasoned voice-only actors. However, Tatum’s contribution was especially thrilling for Aguilar, who stated that he is a “huge fan” of the actor’s work. “I’m so happy. I mean, like obviously Channing Tatum’s Channing Tatum…I think it’s super cool to hear that him and his daughter are fans of the series and show, and even that he got to be a part of it.” Tatum’s character, Keizo, serves as the martial arts mentor of Hakuji — a human who later transforms into the upper-rank demon Akaza, a major member of Demon King Muzan’s army.
Tatum’s voice acting experience is somewhat limited. In addition to voicing Superman in The Lego Movie (2014), he also starred as Migo in Warner Bros’ Animation’s 2014 animated comedy, Smallfoot. Tatum’s role in the latest Demon Slayer film marks his first credited anime role. “I haven’t actually had a chance to meet him yet. That’s why I’m like, you know, ‘my close personal friend,'” Aguilar admitted. “But I do hope I have a chance to meet him at the premiere or one of the press events or something we get to do. Because yeah, I mean, he’s a phenomenal actor. So, I’m just excited to see what he threw down in this movie.”
Infinity Castle is currently the second highest-grossing film in Japanese history, having narrowly surpassed the 31.6 billion yen (or US$214.6 million) total that Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away earned in 2001. Initially released in Japan on July 18, 2025, Infinity Castle reached the 7.3 billion yen milestone (roughly US$49.60 million at the time) during its four-day opening weekend — faster than any other anime film in history. As a major cast member of one of the world’s most successful modern-era shonen titles, Bosch feels extremely gratified that anime as a whole has finally captured the full attention of mainstream audiences. “It feels like for many years we were kind of working in the dark, you know, and kind of just plugging away at this thing called anime…” he stated. “…It’s really cool to see that it’s exploded now into something that people are willing to admit that they watch, you know…it’s really awesome to see.”
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series is available to stream on Hulu, Netflix and Crunchyroll.
