Denzel Washington lashes out at photographer at Cannes Film Festival as he demands ‘stop’

The Hollywood actor was not happy whilst walking the red carpet.

Hollywood star Denzel Washington was not happy with a photographer at Cannes Film Festival. The 70-year-old acting icon was at the premier of movie Highest 2 Lowest at the annual event when one snapper’s actions made him angry.

He was seen wagging his finger at one of those taking photos, with Denzel clearly ordering them to “stop”. He repeated the demand a number of times, writes The Mirror.

The interaction was caught on camera and the actor could be seen on the red carpet at the event alongside co-star A$AP Rocky. It appeared Denzel was less than impressed by a photographer tapping him on the arm.

While the star was clearly unhappy, the photographer seemed to be smiling at the interaction before attempting to grab him once again. The actions caused further fume for Denzel who reacted angrily before walking off.

Despite the altercation, the night was a success for Denzel. He was awarded the honorary Palme d’Or award by director Spike Lee. As Spike handed over the award, he said of the actor: “This is my brother, right here.”

A shocked Denzel responded: “This is a total surprise for me, so I’m emotional. It’s a great opportunity to collaborate with my brother once again, brother from another mother, and to be here once again in Cannes.”

Denzel was the second person to receive the award at the prestigious event. There are usually one or two handed out each year, with this year’s other going to Robert De Niro on the opening night.

Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, presented his mentor and longtime friend Robert with the honorary award at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, and took those in attendance on a trip down memory lane while doing so. Describing De Niro as an “inspiration” DiCaprio said: “I was one of the many very lucky kids who had the incredible opportunity to audition for and ultimately work with him early in my career on This Boy’s Life.

“The audition process was a tough one, there was lots of competition. Nervous who would get the part, at 15 or 16 years old, I did the only think I could think to stand out, I screamed at him at the top of my lungs. The room burst into laughter.”

He went on: “Later that day, as the story goes, Bob was getting on his plane with his producer Art Linson, who asked, ‘Who do you want to play the part?’. And in classic De Niro fashion, he replied, ‘second kid from the last’, luckily, that second kid was me. And that moment changed my life forever.”
