DepEd, DOST vow to bolster science education

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the country’s science education.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. underscored this partnership during the appointment ceremony of the new campus directors of the Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) on Thursday.

“We are fully committed to working together. One thing we discovered nandoon sa kanta ninyo yung ang siyensiya ang sandigan ng maunlad na bayan. That’s the bottomline here,” Angara said in a statement on Friday, referring to the DOST hymn.

Solidum also highlighted the importance of collaborating with DepEd in building the nation’s foundation for science, technology, and innovation.

“We have been discussing how we can work together with them and help them as well in making sure that our reach would go beyond the Philippine Science High School system,” Solidum said in a statement.

The ceremony, held at the PSHS Main Campus in Quezon City, also celebrated the appointment of three new PSHS campus directors:

  • Dr. Rod Allan A. De Lara (PSHS – Main Campus)
  • Dr. Myrna B. Libutaque (PSHS – Western Visayas Campus)
  • Dr. Mary Grace A. Navarro (PSHS – Ilocos Region Campus)
