Did You Know The World’s Tallest Lord Ganesha Statue Is Not In India But In Thailand?
When we think of Lord Ganesha, the first images that come to mind are the grand pandals of Mumbai, Pune, and other Indian cities during Ganesh Chaturthi. But here’s a surprising fact, the world’s tallest bronze Ganesha statue is not in India but in Thailand.
Located in Khlong Khuean district of Chachoengsao Province, Thailand, this idol of Lord Ganesha (known locally as Phra Phikanet), stands at an awe-inspiring 39 meters high. That’s taller than a 12-storey building! Crafted entirely in bronze, it holds the record as the tallest Ganesha statue in the world and has become a landmark for both devotees and curious travellers. To see it, you’ll have to go to Khlong Khuean Ganesh International Park.
Built over four years and completed in 2012, the structure stands a staggering 39 meters tall, including its base—comparable to a 14-story building. The statue comprises 854 individual bronze pieces, intricately assembled to form Ganesha in a “success-granted” standing posture.
Uniquely, each of Ganesha’s four hands holds a symbol of local vitality: jackfruit (abundance), sugarcane (sweetness), banana (nourishment), and mango (wisdom).
Why Does Thailand Have A Lord Ganesh Statue?
While India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, Thailand too shares a deep cultural connection with Lord Ganesha. Known as Phra Phikanet in Thai culture, Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles and patron of arts, learning, and wisdom. Temples, shrines, and even art schools across Thailand feature his image, reflecting centuries of cultural exchange between India and Southeast Asia.

If you are planning a trip to Thailand, a stop at Khlong Khuean’s Phra Phikanet statue is a must. Combine it with a visit to Bangkok’s Ganesha shrines and the vibrant cultural sites of Chachoengsao. And if you happen to visit during Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, the atmosphere is even more special, with celebrations that bridge Indian and Thai traditions.
So this year, while you celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai, Pune, or Delhi, remember that the world’s tallest Lord Ganesha statue stands tall in Thailand—welcoming devotees from across the globe.
