More news is spilling out of a galaxy far, far away, after director Steven Soderbergh confirmed that the Adam Driver-starring The Hunt for Ben Solo movie was the first time that Disney canceled a Lucasfilm Star Wars project that had a finished movie script.

The information originates from a Bluesky account believed to be run by Steven Soderbergh. “Also, in the aftermath of the [Hunt for Ben Solo] situation, I asked Kathy Kennedy if LFL had ever turned in a finished movie script for greenlight to Disney and had it rejected,” the social media post reads. “She said no, this was a first.” You can see the post below.

As another user points out, evidence that this Bluesky account is handled by Soderbergh is an eight-month-old post documenting “Day 0” on The Christophers, the 2025 dark comedy directed by Soderbergh and written by Ed Solomon.

What Happened to Adam Driver’s Star Wars Movie?

Adam Driver shocked Star Wars fandom when he revealed that he almost appeared in a post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie that would have resurrected his character of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

“I always was interested in doing another Star Wars. I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him,” Driver told the Associated Press.

Driver collaborated with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, who then teamed with Rebecca Blunt to flesh out the outline of a potential story. Scott Z. Burns was tapped to write the script after the team pitched the idea to Lucasfilm, with Driver calling it “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

As exciting as this Star Wars movie may sound, it ultimately ended up being rejected by Disney CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman. “They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that,” Driver added. It’s here that the actor revealed the title of the movie would have been The Hunt for Ben Solo.

To add insult to injury for Star Wars fans, director David Fincher also revealed that he was considered to helm a movie in the franchise that also would have taken place after The Rise of Skywalker.

You can stream all the Star Wars movies on Disney+.
