An Air India Express flight from Calicut returned to its origin two hours after takeoff on Wednesday after technical issues were detected on the aircraft.
The Air India Express flight IX 375 had took off for Doha at nearly 9.05 am today, and landed back at Kerala’s Kozhikode airport at nearly 11.15 am, it was known.
There were 188 people on the flight, including the pilots and crew.
“There was a technical issue in the aircraft’s cabin AC. It was not an emergency landing,” news agency PTI quoted an official as saying.
The passengers have been deboarded, he said and added that either the technical issue would be rectified or another aircraft would be arranged for the travellers to resume their journey.
Later, in an official statement, a spokesperson for the airline said an alternative aircraft was arranged and departed.
“One of our flights returned to Kohzikode after take-off due to a technical issue,” the spokesperson said.
“We arranged an alternative aircraft on priority, provided the guests with refreshments during the delay, and the flight has since departed,” the airline statement said.
“We regret the inconvenience and reiterate that safety remains our top priority in every aspect of our operations,” it added.
This comes a day after an Air India flight operating from Hong Kong to New Delhi on Tuesday suffered an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire, shortly after the aircraft landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.
According to the airline, the incident occurred while the aircraft was parked at the gate and passengers had begun to disembark.
“Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
The APU allows an aircraft to operate autonomously without relying on ground support equipment.
Earlier, on Monday evening, a technical issue was detected during the take-off roll of Air India flight AI2403 from Delhi to Kolkata.
The detection led the cockpit crew to abort the take-off in line with established safety protocols.
All passengers were safely disembarked.
