DOT taps India’s movie industry for partnerships

TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco reiterated her offer on Monday to India’s film industry leaders to make the Philippines a premier destination for film production.

In a meeting with executives from Bollylands.com and the National Film Development Corp. of India, Frasco promoted the country’s cinematic potential, showcasing its wide array of filming locations and presenting both fiscal and nonfiscal incentives for foreign filmmakers.

She said that globally acclaimed productions such as “The Bourne Legacy,” “Almost Paradise,” “Survivor Series,” and Netflix’s longest-running culinary travel show, “Somebody Feed Phil,” were filmed in the Philippines.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) offers perks such as up to seven years of income tax holiday and duty-free importation of film equipment, which can be accessed by partnering with local entities.

Through the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) newly established Film Tourism Office and its regional branches, filmmakers will also receive hands-on support, from location scouting to logistical coordination, ensuring access to the country’s diverse landscapes and historic sites.

As one of the world’s largest English-speaking nations, the Philippines provides ease of communication and efficient collaboration with international crews.

The renewed pitch came shortly after the Philippines and India elevated their ties to a strategic partnership, which includes enhanced air connectivity, visa-free travel, and other initiatives.

The Philippines is ramping up efforts to boost connectivity and collaboration with Indian travelers, addressing past challenges to tap into the Indian market.

“The two main hurdles for visiting the Philippines have been removed, with visa-free entry now available for nationals coming into the country,” Frasco said.

“Additionally, direct flights have significantly cut travel time from 13-20 hours to just six hours, making travel more convenient,” she added.
