Eager Downton Abbey fans have been treated to a reveal for the hotly anticipated grand finale of the beloved period drama as actress Joanne Froggatt spilled the beans

The third and final Downton Abbey film has been teased by a cast member from the show!

Joanne Froggatt has shared some exciting news for Downton Abbey fans about the highly anticipated third film in the beloved franchise. It comes as fans were recently thrilled to get a first look at the upcoming film, which is set to be released later this year.

The first Downton Abbey movie, released in 2019, continued the story of the Crawley family and their staff, picking up after the events of the hit TV series, and was a massive hit with fans and a box-office success.

The second instalment, Downton Abbey: A New Era, which was released in 2022, took the Crawley family to the south of France, where they inherited a villa and faced new challenges. Fans eagerly embraced the sequel, which continued the family’s journey.

Now, Joanne, who is best known for playing her character Anna Bates, revealed what viewers can expect for the third movie. Speaking to The Metro, the 44-year-old actress said: “We come to the core of the family and the servants, what the future will be and looking back at where the family have got to now. It’s a beautiful full-circle moment that it comes to at the end.”

She added: “There was a stage where reality TV came in and it was all the rage. There wasn’t much drama being made in the UK. That was sad but then eventually it came good again and Downton Abbey was one of the first shows to sort of bring back the eagerness for good drama. It’s been amazing to ride it all out and still be around to tell the tale.

The caption read: “The time has come to say goodbye. #DowntonAbbey: The Grand Finale is only in theaters September 12.” Excited fans were quick to respond to the post in the comments section with one person writing: “Can‘t wait!” A second person added: “This will feel like saying goodbye to a dear friend.” Meanwhile, a third person said: “Another excuse to dress up yayyyyy.”

The returning stars include Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, and Lesley Nicol.

They will also be joined by Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West, as well as fresh faces including Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.
