Drink Like A Movie Star With Champagne Lallier, The Exclusive Champagne Of The 2025 Oscars
Champagne Lallier R.021 But & Rose
Champagne Lallier
It’s a big year for the team at Champagne Lallier; not only was this their inaugural year as the exclusive Champagne featured at the 97th Oscars, but it is also the debut of Lallier’s new Brut Rose expression, Réflexion R.021 Brut Rosé, the first rosé within the Réflexion range.
And, while we are on the topic of “firsts,” this is also the first time that both Réflexion R.021 Brut and the new Réflexion R.021 Brut Rosé appear in the US Market. Lallier’s Cellar Master, Dominique Demarville, who was Veuve Clicquot’s chef de cave for 13 years is the genius behind the exclusive new offerings bringing his expertise and knack for blending nuance to each expression. Respectively, the R.021 Brut and the R.021 Brut Rose contain a smaller proportion of reserve wines (about 30%) so that the defining aspects of the 2021 vintage can shine through. This is a unique approach for non-vintage Champagne and, says Demarville, “Each one is a very unique expression. Purity, freshness, intensity and depth are the four pillars of Lallier, then we put a touch of the year on top.” He makes it sound easy, the way Tom Brady makes winning multiple Superbowl Championships seem easy—-but it is far from that.
For context, Brut Champagnes are generally blended to achieve harmony in taste from year to year, weaving in reserve wines so that the bubbly is more an expression of house style rather than the vintage. Lallier is doing both—gently celebrating the singularity of a vintage while also delivering the harmony and elegance of their house style. It’s a dicey tightrope to walk and demands unique expertise—which Demarville brings in spades. The Réflexion range was first launched in 2014 with the R.010 and a cuvée has been released every year since, except for in 2017, when the harvest did not meet the standards required for to craft this cuvée.

More is planned for the future as Lallier continues work on a new winery, creating more space for the storage of reserve wines. Says Demarville, “this is to ensure we have the wines and the winemaking space to be at the highest level of quality we can be at.” The additional space allows them to further separate plots of vines into smaller vats for fermentation, allowing for more precision across the blending. And, extra space for reserve wines allows for the addition of a much bigger reserve wine capacity—more reserve wines means even more choices for fine tuning flavor.
Taste
Réflexion R.021 Brut: Brilliant golden-yellow hues in the glass give way to a palate of citrus cream, hazelnut and ripe apples. The wine is complex with notes of brioche on the mid-palate and a finish with a hint of ginger. Delicious with a creamy risotto. $65
Réflexion R.021 Brut Rosé: Delicate pink hues in the glass give way to notes of strawberry, orange peel and butter biscuit on the palate. Luscious and rich in mouthfeel, the finish remains precise and polished. Consider pairing it with lobster, crayfish, or king crab. $85
