€60,000 rental bill for Laois school of music

Laois School of Music will be spending €60,000 on rent to Laois County Council for its premises for the coming three years.

The council has approved the lease of the former presentation primary school building inside Portlaoise Fort Protector walls, to Laois Offaly Education and Training Board for the county’s music school.

The school is already established in the building.

The lease was proposed by Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley, seconded by Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald.

Laois School of Music offers music lessons to children aged 3 upwards, including adults.

Classes for age 8 upwards are given in piano, guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, violin, electric fiddle, double bass, cello, brass, flute, oboe, saxophone, drum kit, singing, keyboard, Leaving Cert music, music theory, Saturday strings programme, Beginner Orchestra, concertina, trad flute, harp, bodhrán, uilleann pipes, The Music Box for children with special needs, rock and pop bands, trad groups, harp ensemble and trad orchestra.

An instrument hire service is available. Classes take place Monday to Saturday throughout the academic year.
