ECOWAS, ACSS partner to tackle insecurity in West Africa
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) have renewed their commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation aimed at countering growing regional threats, particularly insecurity, misinformation, and disinformation across West Africa.
This partnership was underscored during a meeting on Friday, at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, hosted Amanda Dory, Director of the ACSS, who led the visiting delegation.

Both leaders engaged in discussions focused on building stronger bilateral cooperation in the areas of peace, security, and strategic leadership.
At the heart of their conversation was a shared understanding of the urgent need to strengthen governance structures that can withstand and adapt to evolving security dynamics.
They emphasized the importance of reinforcing human security and enhancing early warning systems to prevent the escalation of conflicts and political instability in the region.
As part of their joint vision, ECOWAS and the ACSS agreed to work closely on building the capacities of personnel within ECOWAS institutions and member states.

They also committed to advancing leadership development for peace and security practitioners and to fostering more effective information sharing between institutions.
In recognition of the increasingly complex nature of regional threats, the two bodies also pledged to embrace the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence for improved data collection, analysis, and scenario forecasting.
Both institutions recognizing the need for more agile and informed responses to the security and governance challenges confronting the West African subregion.
The Africa Center for Strategic Studies, an academic institution affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense, plays a vital role in advancing security cooperation through dialogue, research, and professional education.
