EDF’s Acquisition of GE’s Nuclear Steam Power Business Faces Probe by UK Regulator
By Giulia Petroni
The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority has launched a merger inquiry into the acquisition by Electricite de France SA of General Electric Co.’s nuclear steam power business for competition concerns.
The regulator, also known as CMA, said Thursday that it is considering whether the merger could result “in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the U.K. for goods or services.”
It has until June 8 to reach its so-called phase 1 decision, or to assess whether there’s a reasonable belief justified by relevant facts that a merger will lessen competition substantially, according to the authority.
