Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday took a ride in the Tesla car outside the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, a day after the Elon Musk-owned American company marked its official entry into the Indian market with the launch of its first showroom in the city.
Amid the crowd of reporters and officials on both sides of the car, Shinde experienced the ride as he drove the car slowly on the premises.

Tesla officially entered Indian market on Tuesday with the opening of its first showroom at Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the inauguration ceremony and said that the American company chose the “right city and state”.
“This is more than just an inauguration — it’s a statement that Tesla has chosen the right city and state,” said the Maharashtra Chief Minister.
Tesla revealed the prices for its electric vehicles, stating that Model T’s on-road price will be listed at Rs 61 lakh. The rear-wheel drive version will cost Rs 59.89 lakh.
Last Friday, Tesla had hinted at the launch of the showroom through a teaser post on its India-focused X handle: “Coming soon”, it wrote, along with a graphic suggesting its planned debut in July this year.
India recently announced its EV policy, which reduces import duties and gives incentives for global electric vehicle manufacturers. This may further support Tesla as it marked its first presence in the Indian market.
Industry experts say Tesla has already brought in its first batch of cars to India — reportedly Model Y rear-wheel drive SUVs made at its China factory. Last month, the company leased 24,565 square feet of warehouse space at Lodha Logistics Park in Mumbai for five years.
