El Centro fails to meet IVHD merger deadline | Featured
EL CENTRO — The City of El Centro said it failed to meet the March 5 noon deadline to merge with the Imperial Valley Healthcare District.
In a prepared statement, the city said it prioritizes ensuring that El Centro residents are fully informed of the impact of the term sheet conditions on the services they receive.
To provide transparency, the city has prepared to hold a March 11 public forum that will include a presentation on the terms of the transaction and the associated financial considerations.
The public forum to accept comments on the proposed transaction and term sheet is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
At this meeting, the City Council will vote on whether to approve the proposed transaction and term sheet and proceed with finalizing the agreement, the city said.
Details about the proposed transaction will be available until Friday, March 7.
According to the city, over the past several months, a Special Negotiations Committee of the El Centro City Council has worked with the boards of El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) and the newly created Imperial Valley Healthcare District (IVHD) to negotiate the terms of a proposed transaction that would transfer ECRMC’s assets and operations to IVHD.
The terms of the proposed transaction are outlined in a draft term sheet to be signed between the City of El Centro and IVHD.
On February 24, 2025, the Board of Directors for ECRMC approved relevant portions of the proposed transaction and term sheet. On March 4, 2025, the Special Negotiations Committee presented the proposed transaction and term sheet to the El Centro City Council, which approved moving forward with a public forum, as required by California law.
Previously, city officials told the Imperial Valley Press the proposal included the sale of ECRMC for $1.
