Panem has found its new Effie Trinket in Elle Fanning, who has officially joined the star-studded cast of the upcoming prequel “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.”
The franchise announced Fanning’s casting on its official social media pages on Tuesday night, May 20 (Philippine time). The character was previously brought to life by Elizabeth Banks in the first four films.

Fanning, who rose to prominence for her role as Princess Aurora in “Maleficent,” is set to offer a glimpse into Effie’s formative years, decades before her role as District 12’s escort in the original trilogy.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman said that Fanning was the sole choice to portray Effie in the highly anticipated prequel.
“Elizabeth Banks made her iconic—so who could honor that legacy while bringing us back to Effie’s early, most formative days? For us, there was only one answer,” she said in a statement sent to the press.

“Elle Fanning’s career has been transcendent. She has a rare presence—warm, sparkling, and layered with extraordinary depth. She was the undeniable fan favorite from the start, and we’re honored she answered the call. The odds, it turns out, were in our favor,” continued the company’s president.

Fanning made her film debut at the age of two when she portrayed the younger version of her sister Dakota Fanning’s character in the drama film “I Am Sam” (2001). She then appeared in the movies “Daddy Day Care” (2003), “Babel” (2006), and “Phoebe in Wonderland” (2008).
The 27-year-old actress recently received critical acclaim as Catherine the Great in Hulu’s series “The Great.” Elle also starred alongside Timothée Chalamet in the Oscar-nominated “A Complete Unknown” and is set to appear in the sci-fi film “Predator: Badlands” and the drama “Sentimental Value.”
