Elon Musk-backed Tesla GigaBier beer is here, pack of 3 priced over Rs 8K

Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk kept his promise, one-and-a-half years after announcing that he will launch a German beer.

In October 2021, the second richest man in the world promised his fans that he will launch a Tesla beer during the Gigafest held at the Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. He said that the alcoholic beverage will celebrate the factory’s German roots.

The official Twitter handle of Tesla Europe introduced Tesla GigaBier to the world, priced at £79 (more than Rs 8,000). The Cybertruck-inspired beer with five per cent alcohol content comes in a pack of three. Each bottle is 330 ml.

The classy black beer bottles are modelled after Tesla Cybertruck, the upcoming electric light-duty truck that was announced in November 2019. “Cybertruck is designed to have the utility of a truck with sports car performance,” the Cybertruck website says.

The main ingredients in the GigaBier are water, malted barley, Cyberhops and yeast, according to the website.

The newly-launched beer description on the website reads, “Tesla GigaBier is designed to emulate the form of Cybertruck while honouring the 500-year tradition of German Reinheitsgebot beermaking. Enjoy this limited edition pilsner-style beer brewed in Berlin with our exclusive strain of Cyberhops and notes of citrus, bergamot and sweet fruit. Each bottle features a seamless gloss black sleeve with a glow-in-the-dark Giga watermark. Prost!”

Powered by Cyberhops and sold and distributed by BrouwUnie, the limited edition beer is only available in Europe. Made in Germany, Tesla GigaBier can be bought in Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Deutschland, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

It all started with an April Fool’s Day joke in 2018, which immediately became an aspiration to venture into the alcoholic beverages industry.

Its first alcoholic beverage was Tesla Tequila, priced at $250. Customers were allowed to order only two bottles per user. A lightning-shaped empty bottle has now become a collectible and now sells between $150 and $200 on eBay.

It’s yet to be seen how empty Tesla GigaBier bottles fare in the future.
