Elon Musk’s Starlink India launch: Check plans, prices, speed, availability, and everything else we know so far – Technology News
Elon Musk’s Starlink has secured temporary spectrum approval from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), allowing it to initiate trial runs of its satellite-based broadband services in the country. This approval moves the company one step closer to rolling out full-scale commercial operations. With access to the trial spectrum, Starlink is preparing to establish ground facilities and carry out mandatory security evaluations. As part of its plan, the firm will install base stations across 10 sites nationwide, with Mumbai designated as the central hub for operations.
Starlink India launch:
Although the company has yet to confirm an exact rollout date, Starlink’s service is anticipated to launch in the coming months, with speculation pointing to a possible debut before the close of 2025. The move is expected to pave the way for a new era of satellite-powered connectivity in India, expanding internet access to hard-to-reach and border regions that currently lack reliable coverage.
Starlink Internet Speed:
Across the country, much of the buzz around Starlink revolves around the speeds it promises. Current reports suggest that the satellite service will deliver connections ranging from 25 Mbps up to 220 Mbps. While such speeds may not feel groundbreaking in major cities with established fiber networks, they could be transformative in regions where reliable internet is scarce or non-existent. By collaborating with leading telecom providers, Starlink is well-positioned to carve out a niche among users in remote and underserved areas, potentially reshaping connectivity in India’s rural landscape.
Starlink India: Expected Pricing:
Early indications suggest that Starlink’s service will come at a premium cost. Customers may need to pay a one-time equipment charge of around Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 for the hardware kit. In addition, monthly subscription fees are projected to fall between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200, depending on the user’s location and data requirements.
