Elon Musk’s Starlink is expected to launch satellite internet services in India with plans starting below Rs 1,000 per month. The service aims to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet across both urban and remote areas. However, users will need to purchase a hardware kit costing up to Rs 32,400.

New Delhi: Elon Musk’s Starlink is rumoured to bring high-speed internet to India before long, with a monthly price said to be less than Rs 1,000. The main goal is to give users fast and responsive internet access, helping areas lacking suitable broadband infrastructure.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India recently gave Starlink, which operates in more than 100 nations, a Letter of Intent (LoI). Nevertheless, the service is still on hold until the company gets clearance from IN-SPACe and can be allocated the necessary spectrum.

Introductory plans may cost under Rs 1,000

Starlink might start by offering unlimited data plans for under $10 (approximately Rs 840), based on The Economic Times report. By adopting this price strategy, the company could start well in India’s competitive market. Starlink is joining the group of companies that already includes Eutelsat OneWeb, Jio-SES and Globalstar.

Hardware costs may be a barrier

The charge for the antenna and Wi-Fi router is expected to range between Rs 21,300 and Rs 32,400, though the monthly fees are budget-friendly. Since this charge is not ongoing, it might prevent price-sensitive consumers from choosing these services, especially because conventional fibre broadband usually has little or no setup cost.

Starlink is promoting itself as a way to provide internet access where it is unreliable. If people in far-off rural areas and hilly places are not connected to fibre, the service provides a valuable chance to use the internet, learn and communicate.

Starlink is charging about $120 (roughly Rs 10,200) every month in the United States. Users in India will notice that the starting prices are much lower. After the special plans expire, most people end up paying a monthly fee ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 7,000.
