Essential Travel Tips as Covid-19 Makes a Comeback
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Covid-19 is resurging in several Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, as well as in the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Pacific. For those planning to travel to these countries or areas, there are several tips that can be done to prevent exposure to the virus.
As reported by Travel and Leisure Asia, Anirudh Lochan, a Specialist in Intensive Care, Interventional Pulmonologist, and Consultant Doctor at Jeevan Jyoti Clinic And Hospital, New Delhi, suggested that travelers should wear masks, practice social distancing, and avoid public transportation.
Meanwhile, Paresh Sharma, a Resident in Laparoscopic and Minimal Invasive Surgery at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jaipur, mentioned that although vaccination remains the best defense, especially with booster shots, he reminded people to regularly wash their hands, avoid touching their face, and monitor local COVID warnings before traveling.
But if experiencing Covid-19 symptoms while traveling, try to isolate as much as possible, wear a face mask, and avoid crowded areas. “Rest, stay hydrated, and take paracetamol to reduce fever or pain. And if the symptoms do not subside, and you have difficulty breathing or chest pain, do not wait. Seek medical help immediately,” Sharma emphasized.
Travelers can also boost their immune system before traveling. Ankita Gupta Sehgal, Founder of Nutrition Matters, stated that immunity is not built overnight. “But certain habits can strengthen your body’s resilience,” she said.
Such as maintaining hydration, consuming foods rich in vitamin C, ensuring protein intake at each meal, or adding spices such as turmeric, ginger, garlic, and cinnamon. “And most importantly, stay hydrated, get adequate rest, and reduce sugar intake,” she added.
Tips for Choosing Destinations and Accommodation
To avoid the risk of contracting Covid-19, it is recommended to choose destinations with low impact. Lochan mentioned places with lower and open density, such as beaches or mountains, and have good airflow. However, according to him, a city that has not reported cases does not mean the virus is not spreading. But the number of cases has not exceeded the reporting threshold set by the authorities. Additionally, those with pre-existing conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension should choose destinations with good healthcare services.
With the increasing cases of Covid-19, Ankita Gupta Sehgal recommended choosing appropriate accommodation, which prioritizes cleanliness and safety. Such as regular sanitation policies, room ventilation or good cleaning, availability of in-room dining services, and access to local clinics or hospitals. “Also, check recent reviews for cleanliness, and avoid communal dining areas during busy hours,” she added.
