Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH) developers have reportedly delayed a planned test of the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi network.
The delay comes after security researchers identified a problem that could change how existing smart contracts handle failed transactions.
The situation could result in errors becoming permanent on the Ethereum network, according to multiple media reports.
The Glamsterdam upgrade, the biggest change to Ethereum’s blockchain in years, was due to activate on Oct. 26.
Developers have now postponed the final upgrade while they investigate and fix the issue that has been discovered.
A new date for the Glamsterdam upgrade to be finalized and go live has not been announced.
Glamsterdam is expected to bring several enhancements to the Ethereum network, including a new system for choosing block builders and enabling the network to handle larger blocks.
The upgrade completed its Sepolia testnet on Oct. 6. Hoodi was the next public test in the process, alongside a planned increase in its gas limit to 200 million, which has also been delayed.
ETH is trading at $2,400 U.S. on Oct. 23.
