EU funds N$29 million porridge supply for Early Childhood Development in Erongo

THE Ministry of Education, together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, has received a consignment of 2,500 bags of instant porridge, funded by the European Union (EU), to support Early Childhood Development (ECD) feeding programmes in the Erongo Region.

“This critical intervention has been made possible through the generous financial support of the European Union (EU), amounting to N$29 million, technical assistance from the United Nations (UN) World Food Programme (WFP) Namibia, and implementation by WECCA Investments CC,” the Ministry of Education explained.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Swakopmund, the Minister of Education, Sanet Steenkamp, reiterated the government’s commitment to multisectoral partnerships that promote nutrition and early learning. She emphasised the ministry’s dedication to ensuring that no child’s academic development is compromised due to hunger.

“The Ministry remains committed to ensuring all contributions reach the intended beneficiaries in a timely and transparent manner, as it continues to scale up the ECD Feeding Programme in partnership with key stakeholders,” the Ministry of Education assured.
